Midview Football to close regular season at Amherst
Who: Midview High School (4-5, 1-5 SWC) and Amherst Steele High School (4-5, 2-4 SWC)
What: Week 10 OHSAA Southwestern Conference Varsity Football Game
Where: Spitzer Autoworld Stadium (450 Washington St, Amherst, OH 44001)
When: Kickoff is Friday (October 24) at 7 p.m.
Who Needs a Ticket: Everyone Kindergarten age to 59 years of age must have a ticket in order to enter. Senior Citizens (60+) are admitted free regardless of where they live. In addition, Midview Local School and SWC passes will be accepted at any gate.
Adult Tickets: Adult Tickets are $10. Presale Tickets are available for adults only at https://amherstcomets.com/events?ticketed=true. Cash and credit card sales will also be availale at the gate.
Student Tickets: Student Tickets for kids in grades K-12 are $5 and available only at the gate.
Haltime Entertainment: The Midview High School Marching Blue will perform first followed by the Amherst Steele Marching Comets.
Last Meeting: A Comet goal line stand in the final minute helped Amherst Steele escape Ross Field with a 21-16 victory in week 4 of the 2024 season. [Recap]
2024 Records: Midview finished 5-6 overall and 2-5 in the Southwestern Conference, while Amherst went 6-5 overall and 3-4 in the SWC.
2024 Playoffs: The Middies lost 31-14 at Padua Franciscan High School in the first round of the OHSAA Division III playoffs. The Comets fell 35-7 to Olmsted Falls High School in round one of the OHSAA Division II playoffs.
Midview's Last Game: The Middies turned the ball over four times in a 42-7 loss to visiting Olmsted Falls High School [Recap].
Amherst's Last Game: The Comets suffered a 42-28 loss at North Ridgeville High School in week 9.
Midview Head Coach: Head Coach Jack Armstrong is 13-18 in his third season leading the Middies. Armstrong, a 2012 graduate of Midview High School, is a Special Education Coordinator at his alma mater and had served as a varsity assistant coach with the Middies for six of the previous seven seasons before taking over. He is the just the eighth coach in program history, which dates back to the consolidation of Belden, Eaton and Grafton high schools in 1955.
Amherst Head Coach: Head Coach Tom Thome has compiled a 13-17 record over his 3 seasons with the Comets. He joined Amherst after leading Lakewood High School for five years.
Midview Stat Leaders: Senior Marcus McMahon has 193 carries for 1,095 yards and 20 TDs. He has also caught 11 passes for 110 yards and 1 TD. Senior Shay Williams has completed 95-of-174 passes (54.6%) and thrown for 1,307 yards and 6 TDs and 6 inteceptions while also rushing 54 times for 230 yards and 2 TDs. Senior Zachary Wallace has a team-best 39 catches for 660 yards and 3 TDs, while junior Brennen Newton has 25 grabs for 334 yards and 3 TDs. Defensively, senior Brayden Homoki has 145 tackles, senior Braden Armold has 75 tackles and junior Sawyer McMillin has 54 stops hrough nine games. Senior Kaiden Vonya is 19-of-21 and senior Christopher Payne is 8-of-9 in extra-point attempts this season.
Midview Returning Lettermen: Midview returns 19 letterwinners from a year ago, including a trio of two-year lettermen in Brayden Homoki, Leo Swirynsky and Zachary Wallace.
SWC Non-Conference Success: The 8 SWC teams combined to go 14-10 over the first three weeks against non-league opponents. [Standings]
Playoff Outlook: Midview currently sits 15th in Division III Region 10, while Amherst is 15th in Division II Region 6 through week 9 of the season. The top 12 of each region make the playoffs in 2025. Both teams need a week 10 win and some help to qualify for the playoffs.
