Amherst Holds off Midview Football 21-16

Midview Varsity Football's three-game win streak to start the year was stopped by an Amherst Steele High School goal-line stand in the final minute of Friday (September 13) evenings' 21-16 loss on Ross Field at Adelsberg Stadium.

The win improved the Comets' record to 4-0, 1-0 in the Southwestern Conference. The Middies dropped to 3-1 overall and 0-1 in league play.

Amherst held a 14-0 advantage after the first 12 minutes. Midview got on the board with a 26-yard field goal from senior Ethan Morris with 4:54 left in the half. The Middies closed the gap in the final seconds of the second quarter when senior Dior Jones caught a short pass from junior Shay Williams only to break a few tackles are race for a 46-yard touchdown.

Midview took a 16-14 lead when Williams connected with a streaking senior Camden Scott for a 77-yard touchdown in the opening minute into the third quarter. Amherst responded with a touchdown run midway through the frame to regain the lead 21-16. Despite plenty of fireworks, there was no more scoring the rest of the way.

The Middies will look to rebound Friday (September 20) at Avon Lake High School. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
