Midview Football heads to rival North Ridgeville for Week 7 battle

Who: Midview High School (4-2, 1-2 SWC) and North Ridgeville High School (5-1, 2-1 SWC)

What: Week 7 OHSAA Southwestern Conference Varsity Football Game

Where: North Ridgeville High School's Ranger Stadium (34600 Bainbridge Rd., North Ridgeville, OH 44039)

When: Kickoff is Friday (October 4) at 7 p.m.

Tickets: All Tickets are General Admission and $8. Everyone Kindergarten age to 59 years of age must have a ticket in order to enter. Senior Citizens (60+) are also admitted free regardless of where they live. Presale Tickets are available here: https://nrcs.hometownticketing.com/embed/all. Cash and credit cards sales also available at the gate. In addition, Midview Local School and North Ridgeville City School employee IDs and SWC passes will be accepted.

Concessions: North Ridgeville concessions will accept both cash and credit cards on Friday.

Parking: Parking is available in the front of both the high school and academic center. Spectators should enter from the main gate at the south end of the stadium between the buildings.

Haltime Performance: The Midview High School Marching Blue will perform first followed by the North Ridgeville High School marching band.

Last Meeting: The Middies knocked off upstart rival North Ridgeville 25-28 on September 29, 2023. Ethan Elbert completed 12-of-18 passing attempts for 239 yards and 2 TDs, while running 15 times for 65 yards and another TD. Dior Jones had 4 catches for 89 yards, while Dane West had 4 receptions for 83 yards and a TD. Wyatt Lehman led the defense with 19 total tackles, while Michael Passerrello Jr added 17 stops and Dane West had a game-clinching interception..

2023 Records: Midview finished 4-7 overall and 2-5 in the Southwestern Conference, while North Ridgeville went 8-4 overall and 4-3 in the SWC. The Middies lost 49-7 at Highland High School in the first round of the OHSAA Division II Playoffs. The Rangers opened their playoff run with a 35-14 win over Valley Forge High School before falling to Highland High School 28-7 in round 2 of the OHSAA Division II Playoffs.

Midview's Last Game: The Middies used its ground attack and suffocating defense to defeat visiting Berea-Midpark High School 16-7 on Homecoming. Junior Shay Williams ran for 123 of Midview's 229 yards on the ground. Junior Brayden Homoki had 15 total stops and senior Nathanial Shenberger added 3 sacks in the win. [Recap].

North Ridgeville's Last Game: The Rangers bounced back from their first loss of the season to rout Elyria High School 56-7. North Ridgeville scored touchdowns on its first seven possessions and finished with 247 yards rushing against the Pioneers.

Midview Head Coach: Head Coach Jack Armstrong is now 8-9 in his second season leading the Middies. Armstrong, a 2012 graduate of Midview High School, is a Special Education Coordinator at his alma mater and has served as a varsity assistant coach with the Middies for six of the previous seven seasons before taking over. He is the just the eighth coach in program history, which dates back to the consolidation of Belden, Eaton and Grafton high schools in 1955.

North Ridgeville Head Coach: Head Coach Bryan Morgan is 21-18 in his fourth year leading the Rangers' football program.

Midview Stat Leaders: Junior quarterback Shay Williams has completed 51-of-94 (54.3%) passes and thrown for 675 yards with 4 TDs and 3 INTs. He also has 84 carries for 335 yards and 2 TDs. Junior Marcus McMahon has 47 carries for 237 yards and 2 TDs, and junior Michael Passerrello Jr. has 52 carries for 240 yards and 2 TDs. Senior Dior Jones leads the receving corps with 16 catches for 299 yards and 1 TD, while McMahon has added 9 catches for 64 yards and 1 TD. Both Jones and Passerrello Jr. have a special teams return for a TD this season. Junior Brayden Homoki leads the team with 101 total tackles, while senior Wyatt Lehman has added 57 total tackles on the year. Midview Returning Lettermen: Midview returned 17 letterwinners from a year ago, including All-SWC first team junior running back/defensive back Michael Passerrello Jr.

SWC Non-Conference Success: The 8 SWC teams combined to go 17-7 over the first three weeks against non-league opponents. [Standings]

Playoffs Outlook: Midview currently sits 5th in Division III Region 10, while North Ridgeville is 7th in Division II Region 6 through week 6 of the season. The top 16 of each region once again make the playoffs in 2024. Drew Pasteur's Fantastic 50 projects that both schools have likely locked up a playoff berth.
