Midview Football tops Berea-Midpark 16-7 in the rain

Midview Varsity Football defeated visiting Berea-Midpark High School 16-7 in a rain-soaked Southwestern Conference battle Friday (September 27) on Ross Field at Adelsberg Stadium.

The Titans (1-5, 0-3 SWC) took a 7-0 lead with an 11-yard touchdown pass on fourth down with 4:18 to play in the opening quarter. The Middies responded with their own fourth down magic as junior Shay Williams raced for a 42-yard score on 4th and 1 and senior Ethan Morris nailed the extra point to tie the game at 7 with 11:23 left in the half.

Junior Michael Passerrello Jr. gave Midview a 13-7 advantage with a 5-yard TD run with 7:33 to play in the third quarter. Morris capped the scoring with a 28-yard field goal with 3:07 left in the game.

With the weather affecting the passing game, the Middies relied on their three-headed rushing attack to rack up 229 yards on the ground. Williams gained 123 yards on 19 carries, Passerrello had 14 carries for 61 yards and junior Marcus McMahon contributed 10 rushes for 45 yards.

Defensively, junior Brayden Homoki continued to be the Middies' top tackler. He had 15 more total stops, including two for loss. Senior Nathanial Shenberger was one of five more to collect double-digit tackles and added 3 keys sacks in the win.

The Middies (4-2, 1-2 SWC) travels to rival North Ridgeville High School (5-1, 2-1 SWC) on Friday (October 4). Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
