Berea-Midpark outlasts Midview Football 42-27
Midview Varsity Football ended Friday (September 19) evening's Southwestern Conference battle at Berea-Midpark High School on the shortend of a 42-27 result in week 5.
The Titans jumped out to a 14-0 advantage, before the Middies scored on a senior Marcus McMahon 60-yard TD run with 1:40 left in the first quarter. Berea-Midpark then returned the ensuing kickoff for a 90-yard TD to extend its lead back to 14 points at the end of the first frame. McMahon added a 2-yard TD run in the second quarter, while the Titans scored their fourth TD before the end of the half.
McMahon gave his squad a jolt by returning the second half kickoff for an 89-yard TD. McMahon then scored his fourth TD of the game with a 2-yard run with 1:40 to play in the third quarter, but the extra point was missed on the college-sized goal posts allowing Berea-Midpark to maintain a 28-27 lead. The Titans used two more big pass plays, a 65-yard TD pass and a 51-yard TD pass down the stretch to seal the victory.
McMahon finished with 26 carries for 137 yards. Senior Shay Williams was 13-of-23 for 139 yards passing. Senior Zachary Wallace led the receivers with 6 catches for 95 yards. Defensively, junior Brayden Homoki collected 20 total stops, while junior Blake Butts added 10 in the loss.
The Middies (3-2, 0-2 SWC) look to bounce back when they host rival North Ridgeville High School in a Homecoming match-up on Friday (September 26) at 7 p.m.
