Midview Football shuts out Elyria Catholic 27-0
Midview Varsity Football remained undefeated with a 27-0 road victory over Elyria Catholic High School on a rainy Friday (September 6) evening.
It is the second straight shutout for the Middies (3-0). The last time Midview had multiple shutouts in a season was 2006 when blanked opponents in five of the team's ten games, including three in a row against Avon High School, Fairview High School and Bay High School, respectively in weeks 6 through 8.
Weather played a factor throughout the night. The Middies' first three scores all came off turnovers. Midview's offense took advantage of a botched punt by the Panthers to take a 6-0 advantage. After a fumble, junior quarterback Shay Williams scored on a 3-yard TD run with 6:02 to play in the first quarter. Williams added a 4-yard TD run in the closing minute of the first frame to give the Middies a 12-0 lead.
Following another fumble, Williams connected with junior runnning back Marcus McMahon on a 29-yard TD strike on a fourth and 15 with 6:00 to play in the half. McMahon followed with a two-point conversion run to put the Middies ahead 20-0. The score remained the same until McMahon added a 36-yard TD run and senior Ethan Morris hit the extra point with 3:02 left in the game. Midview's defense sealed the shutout with a series of big stops down the stretch.
The Middies turn their attention to Southwestern Conference play and a match-up with visiting Amherst Steele High School (3-0) on September 13. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
