Shenberger Qualifies for State Tournament at Hoover District

Midview 215-pound senior Nathanial Shenberger had his dream of making the state tournament become a reality with an impressive performance Saturday (March 1) at the 2025 OHSAA Division I Hoover District Tournament. Midview finished 14th in the team standings with 28 points.

Shenberger opened the tournament on Friday with third period pin over Massillon Perry High School before falling into the consolation bracket after a technical fall loss to Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School. With his back to the mat after day one, Shenberger rose to the challenge with three straight pinfall victories [Boardman High School (1:59), Harvey High School (0:57) and Nordmany High School (1:54)] to punch his ticket to the Division I State Tournament. He went on to finish in fourth place after losing his final match on the weekend. However, it could not dampen the excitement that Shenberger showed knowing his interscholastic wrestling career would continue for one more week.

Shenberger's advancement to the final weekend helps extend the program's streak to 10 straight years that the Middies have had a state qualifier. It is by far the longest in Midview history.

The Middies had six other district qualifiers this season. Seniors 144-pounder Gage Baribeau, 190-pounder Cameron West and 285-pounder Makai Massey also advanced to day two before ending their careers in the third, second and second round consolation rounds, respectively. Junior Carrson Morris (126 pounds), senior Aaron Cole (138 pounds) and junior Marcus McMahon (144 pounds) also competed and finished 0-2 at the tournament.

The OHSAA State Tournament will take place March 7-9 at the Schottenstein Center in Columbus.
