Anderson and Dye Qualify for State at Perrysburg District Tournament
Midview High School Boys Wrestling entered the 2024 postseason with a pair of seniors having already experienced what it is like to compete in the OHSAA State Tournament. Hunter Anderson (150 pounds) and Austin Dye (285 pounds) will have an opportunity to build upon those memories at the 2024 OHSAA State Tournament after they inished in the top 4 at the Perrysburg District Tournament on March 2 [Complete Results]
Dye, who will make his school-record third straight State Tournament appearance and earned All-Ohio honors as a junior, opened his District Tournament with a first round pin of his St. Ignatius opponent. He then defeated Medina Highland 8-4 in his Quarterfinal and secured a state berth with a 4-3 win over St. Edward in the Semifinal. Dye then fell 7-0 to Shaker Heights in the Finals to earn District Runner-up honors.
Anderson pinned Uniontown Lake in the third period of his opening round match. He then defeated Findlay 9-3 in the Quarterfinals before losing 13-5 to St. Edward in the Semifinals. Anderson bounced back to secure his bid to State with a third period pin of North Royalton in the Consolation Semifinal before topping Medina 8-0 in the Third Place match.
Senior Gabriel Borror (165 pounds) wrapped up his stellar career with a sixth place finish at the Perrysburg District. He opened with a third period pin of Oregon Clay and a 4-2 sudden victory against Medina Highland in the Quarterfinal before falling by pin to St. Edward in the Semifinal, 4-3 to Findlay in the Consoaltion Semifinal and by pin to Uniontown Lake in the Fifth Place match.
In addition, sophomore Carrson Morris (120 pounds), junior Gage Baribeau (138 pounds) and junior Nathanial Shenberger (190 pounds) also competed at the event. Shenberger was the lone Middie of the three to earn a win. He did so in the Consolation First Round before being eliminated in the next round.
The OHSAA State Tournament will take place March 8-10 at the Schottenstein Center in Columbus.
