Girls Basketball holds off Avon 51-49

Midview Varsity Girls Basketball celebrated Senior Day with a dramatic 51-49 victory over visting Avon High School on Saturday (February 8) inside Kubuski Gymnasium.

Junior Leah DiFranco scored 15 of her team-high 22 points in the third quarter, as the Middies turned a three-point halftime deficit into a five-point advantage with one quarter to play.

Midview then led 51-47 with 28.7 left to play. However, a chaotic chain of events transpired after a time out, which gave the Eagles a chance to tie the game without any time leaving the clock. The Middies inbounded the ball with six players on the floor, which is an automatic technical. A second technical was then called after coach's reaction. Avon (16-6, 9-5 SWC) though only converted 2-of-4 technical foul shots to trim the deficit to one basket. Midview was able to settle down and its defense, led by lone senior Ava Lewis, withstood three field goal attempts in Avon's final possession to hold on for the narrow win.

Junior Hunter Crum added 10 points, while Lewis contributed 6 in the victory.

The Middies (7-14, 5-9 SWC) turn their attention to OHSAA Division III tournament play with a Sectional Final at Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy on February 15 at 7 p.m.
