Girls Basketball rallies to win at Amherst 51-49
Midview Varsity Girls Basketball rallied to defeat host Amherst Steele High School 51-49 on Saturday (December 14) afternoon.
The Middies trailed 30-21 at the break. They closed the gap to 36-33 after the third quarter on a three-pointer in the final seconds by junior Hunter Crum. Midview lost two of its staring guards—junior Leah DiFranco and freshman Leila Morgan—to non-serious injuries within a 90-second span early into the fourth quarter. However, that inspired the Middies to outscore the Comets 13-11 over the final 4:53.
Junior Riley Frei, who scored 7 of her game-high 13 points during that stretch, as well senior Ava Lewis and sophomore Audrey Gerber helped pick of the slack with rebounding a timely scoring to seal the victory.
Both DiFranco and Morgan finished with 12 points and Crum had 8.
Midview (4-3, 2-1 SWC) plays host Avon Lake High School on Wednesday (December 18). JV tips off at 5:45 p.m. Varsity will follow at 7 p.m.
