Girls Basketball opens season with 55-44 loss to Columbia
Midview Varsity Girls Basketball suffered a 55-44 season-opening loss to visiting Columbia High School Friday (November 22) evening on Troy DiFranco Court inside Kubuski Gymnasium.
The young Middies (0-1) fought back from a nine-point first quarter and halftime deficit to tie the game at 37 with a 6-0 run to begin the final quarter. They even took a 41-39 lead on a layup by freshmen Jacinta Miller with 4:04 to play in the game. The Raiders (1-0), however, scored 16 of the final 19 points to secure the victory.
Junior Leah DiFranco paced the Middies with 18 points and 12 rebounds in 32 minutes. Midview freshmen accounted for 16 of the remaing 26 points as Harlee Crum had 7, Miller contributed 6 and Leila Morgan finished with 3.
The Middies returns to action Wednesday (November 27) when they plays host to Vermilion High School in game one of the 24th DiFranco Classic at 11:30 a.m. [Classic Preview]
