North Ridgeville escapes with 28-24 win over Midview Football

Midview Varsity Football gave visting North Ridgeville High School all that it could handle during a 28-24 Homecoming loss Friday (September 26) on Ross Field at Adelsberg Stadium.

The intense Southwestern Conference rivals battled back and forth all night with 8 lead changes during the 48 minutes.

The Middies got on the board first with a 25-yard field goal by senior Kaiden Vonya. The Rangers took the lead with a 71-yard TD run to lead 7-3 after one frame. Senior Marcus McMahon helped Midview regain the advantage with an 8-yard run only for North Ridgeville to respond with a 34-yard TD pass to take a 14-10 lead into halftime. McMahon scored on a 35-yard TD run, and then the Rangers answered with a 27-yard pass and it was 21-17 after three quaters. McMahon scored his third TD of the game with a 5-yard run. However, North Ridgeville once again came right back by completing a 40th and 20 and then sealed the drive with a three-yard run to take the 28-24 lead in the final minute. Midview got the ball all of the way down to the North Ridgeville 5-yard line but then had a penalty and three straight incomplete passes to end the game.

McMahon finished with 33 carries for 165 yards. Senior Shay Williams completed 15-of-29 pass attempts for 183 yards, while senior Homecoming King Zachary Wallace had four catches for 84 yards. Defensively, senior Brayden Homoki paced the defense with 18 total tackles, while classmate Braden Armold added nine and junior Sawyer McMillin contributed 8 hits in the loss.

The Middies (3-3, 0-3 SWC) visit defending OHSAA Division II State Champion Avon High School on October 3 at 7 p.m.
