Varsity Football opens 2024 campaign with 34-14 win over Westlake
Midview Varsity Football scored 27 unanswered points to knock off visiting Westlake High School 34-14 Friday (August 23) evening on the newly renovated Ross Field at Adelsberg Stadium.
The Demons and Middies traded touchdowns in the first half and entered intermission locked at 14. Midview scored on a 1-yard run by junior Marcus McMahon with 3:32 to play in the first quarter and a 3-yard run by junior Michael Passerrello Jr. with 6:46 to play in the second quarter.
The second half was all Midview. Senior Cameron West scored on a 14-yard run with 9:44 to play in the third quarter, and junior Shay Williams found Passerrello for a 14-yard TD pass with 5:35 left in the frame.
The final six points came off the foot of senior Ethan Morris. Morris, who also connected on all four extra points, hit a 42-yard field goal with 8 seconds left in the third quarter. He then entered Midview's record books with the second longest field goal in school history, a 45-yarder with 1:42 to play in the game. Brenden Matchum hit a then Lorain County record 50-yard field goal for the Middies in 2012.
The Middies are back in action Friday (August 30) when they play host to North Olmsted High School at 7 p.m.
