Midview Football visits Avon in Week 8

Who: Midview High School (3-4, 1-3 SWC) and Avon High School (7-0, 4-0 SWC)

What: Week 8 OHSAA Division II Region 6 Southwestern Conference Varsity Football Game

Where: Mark Wahlberg Chevrolet Stadium at the Avon Early Learning Center (3075 Stoney Ridge Rd, Avon, OH 44011)

When: Kickoff is Friday (October 6) at 7 p.m. Doors will open at 5:45 p.m.

Tickets: All Tickets are General Admission and $8. Everyone Kindergarten age to 59 years of age must have a ticket in order to enter. Senior Citizens (60+) are also now admitted free regardless of where they live. A credit card reader will also be available for walk-up tickets. In addition, Midview Local School and Avon High School employee IDs and SWC passes will be accepted.

Parking: Parking at Avon's stadium is a challenge with only one way in and out of the facility. Parking is limited to the North and South Parking lots. Street parking is available and on staff Police Officers will guide in overflow parking. Fans are encouraged to park at the back of the high school and walk. A map is below.

Special Events: It is Avon's Homecoming. In addition, they will be honoring state champion swimmer, Alex Downing, on the field at the end of the 1st Quarter.

Halftime Performance: The Midview High School Marching Blue will perform first, followed by the Avon High School Marching Band

Last Meeting: Avon defeated host Midview 42-7 in Week 9 of the 2023 season. Hunter Anderson rushed 25 times for 123 yards, while Cameron West had a team-high 8 total tackles in the loss.

2022 Records: Midview finished 2-8 overall and 1-6 in the Southwestern Conference, while Avon went 12-2 overall and 7-0 in the league play. The Eagles won their first three OHSAA Division II playoff games before falling 28-20 to Toledo Central Catholic High School in the Region 6 Championship.

New Era: Head Coach Jack Armstrong takes the reins of Midview Football in 2023-24. He was promoted to Head Coach on May 31. Armstrong, a 2012 graduate of Midview High School, is a Special Education teacher at his alma mater and has served as a varsity assistant coach with the Middies for six of the last seven seasons. He becomes the just the eighth coach in program history, which dates back to the consolidation of Belden, Eaton and Grafton high schools in 1955.

Midview's Last Game: The Middies knocked off upstart rival North Ridgeville High School 25-28 on September 29. Ethan Elbert completed 12-of-18 passing attempts for 239 yards and 2 TDs, while running 15 times for 65 yards and another TD. Dior Jones had 4 catches for 89 yards, while Dane West had 4 receptions for 83 yards and a TD. Wyatt Lehman led the defense with 19 total tackles, while Michael Passerrello Jr added 17 stops and Dane West had a game-clinching interception.

Avon's Last Game: The Eagles scored on every first half possession to soundly defeat Berea-Midpark High School 41-0 on September 29.

Midview Stat Leaders: Senior quarterback Ethan Elbert has completed 78-of-151 (51.6%) passes and thrown for 1,273 yards and 9 TDs and 7 INTs. He also has 80 carries for 274 yards and 4 more TDs. Sophomore Michael Passerrello Jr. has added 47 carries for 173 yards and 2 TDs on the ground. Midview's top three receivers are junior Cameron West (18 receptions for 224 yards and 1 TD), senior Dane West (18 receptions for 281 yards and 2 TDs) and junior Dior Jones (18 receptions for 541 yards and 4 TDs). Junior Wyatt Lehman has a team-high 68 total tackles, while senior Connor Rose has added 62 stops.

Push for the Playoffs: Midview is currently ranked 11th in the OHSAA Division II Region 6 rankings. The Middies are projected to qualify for the playoffs regardless of the outcome of the last 3 games. Avon, who is ranked atop those same rankings, has already secured a spot in the playoffs and a home game in at least round 1.
