Midview Returns Home to Host Avon Lake in Week 5

Who: Midview High School (2-2, 0-1 SWC) and Avon Lake High School (3-1, 0-1 SWC)

What: Week 5 OHSAA Division II Region 6 Southwestern Conference Varsity Football Game

Where: Ross Field at Adeslberg Stadium (38199 Capel Road, Grafton, OH 44044)

When: Kickoff is Friday (September 15) at 7 p.m. Doors will open at 6 p.m.

Tickets: All Tickets are General Admission and $8. Everyone Kindergarten age to 59 years of age must have a ticket in order to enter. Senior Citizens (60+) are also now admitted free regardless of where they live. Presale Tickets are available here: https://midview.hometownticketing.com/embed/all A credit card reader will also be available at both the Pass Gate and the Middle School entrance for walk-up tickets. Cash Sales exclusively at the Pass Gate. In addition, Midview Local School and Avon Lake High School employee IDs and SWC passes will be accepted.

Specator Note: All kids in attendance will be expected to sit in the stands with their parents or in the assigned student sections. Spectators are prohibited from bringing sporting equipment (footballs, basketballs, etc.) inside Adelsberg Stadium during Varsity Football Games. They will be turned away at the gate. Alcohol and Smoking are also prohibited on the campus of Midview Local Schools.

Halftime Performance: The Avon Lake Marching Band will perform first, followed by the Midview High School Marching Blue.

Concessions: The Midview Band Boosters will once again sponsor all concessions during Midview Varsity Football home games.

Last Meeting: Avon Lake routed visiting Midview 56-7 in Week 5 of the 2022 season. Avon Lake's Wade Nelson ran for 91 yards and scored 3 TDs, while Jeremy Dzik completed 7-of-21 passes and threw for 246 yards and 3 TDs, and Matthew Stuewe added seven catches for 102 yards and 2 TDs. Chris Miscuda paced the Middies with 5 rushed for 39 yards and a TD. Dane West and Connor Rose both had 10 total tackles in the loss.

2022 Records: Midview finished 2-8 overall and 1-6 in the Southwestern Conference, while Avon Lake went 9-3 overall and 5-2 in the league play. The Shoremen defeated Sylvania Southview High School 26-0 in the first round of the OHSAA playoffs before being knocked out by Toledo Central Catholic High School 21-0 in the following round.

New Era: Head Coach Jack Armstrong takes the reins of Midview Football in 2023-24. He was promoted to Head Coach on May 31. Armstrong, a 2012 graduate of Midview High School, is a Special Education teacher at his alma mater and has served as a varsity assistant coach with the Middies for six of the last seven seasons. He becomes the just the eighth coach in program history, which dates back to the consolidation of Belden, Eaton and Grafton high schools in 1955.

Midview's Last Game: Midview racked up over 400 yards of offense but turned the ball over 4 times in a 17-7 loss at Amherst Steele High School. Ethan Elbert completed 21-of-34 passes and threw for 312 yards and a TD. Cameron West (71 yards) and Dane West (47 yards) each caught 6 passes. Michael Passerrello Jr. led the defense with 16 total tackles.

Avon Lake's Last Game: The Shoremen used its running attack to defeat Berea-Midpark HIgh School 24-7. Wade Nelson had a pair of TD runs in the victory.

Midview Stat Leaders: Senior quarterback Ethan Elbert has completed 53-of-95 (55.8%) passes and thrown for 901 yards and 6 TDs and 5 INTs. He also has 56 carries for 186 yards and 3 more TDs. Sophomore Michael Passerrello Jr. has added 26 carries for 151 yards and a TD on the ground. Midview's top three receivers are junior Cameron West (15 receptions for 195 yards and 1 TD), senior Dane West (13 receptions for 158 yards and 1 TD) and junior Dior Jones (11 receptions for 365 yards and 3 TDs). Junior Wyatt Lehman and senior Connor Rose both have a team-high 39 total tackles.
