Midview Football Opens SWC Play at Amherst in Week 4
Who: Midview High School (2-1, 0-0 SWC) and Amherst Steele High School (2-1, 0-0 SWC)
What: Week 4 OHSAA Division II Region 6 Southwestern Conference Varsity Football Game
Where: Mercy Health Stadium at Marion L. Steele High School (450 Washington Street, Amherst, OH 44001)
When: Kickoff is Friday (September 8) at 7 p.m. Doors will open at 6 p.m.
Tickets: All Tickets are General Admission and $8. Everyone Kindergarten age to 59 years of age must have a ticket in order to enter. Senior Citizens (60+) are also now admitted free regardless of where they live. In addition, Midview Local School and Amherst Exempted Village School employee IDs and SWC passes will be accepted.
Halftime Performance: The Midview Marching Blue will perform first, followed by the Amherst Steele Marching Comets.
Last Meeting: Midview scored 14 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to defeat visiting Amherst 28-21 in Week 5 of the 2022 season. Then senior Marc Reed secured the victory with a 2-yard TD run in the final seconds. Reed completed 10-of-20 passes for 204 yards and 2 TD while also running 19 times for 101 yards and the game-winning TD. Senior Connor Rose led the defense with 12 total tackles in the win.
2022 Records: Midview finished 2-8 overall and 1-6 in the Southwestern Conference, while Amherst went 0-10 overall and 0-7 in the league play.
New Era: Head Coach Jack Armstrong takes the reins of Midview Football in 2023-24. He was promoted to Head Coach on May 31. Armstrong, a 2012 graduate of Midview High School, is a Special Education teacher at his alma mater and has served as a varsity assistant coach with the Middies for six of the last seven seasons. He becomes the just the eighth coach in program history, which dates back to the consolidation of Belden, Eaton and Grafton high schools in 1955.
Midview's Last Game: Midview jumped out to a 21-0 halftime lead and then held on for a 21-13 victory at home agianst Elyria Catholic High School in Week 3. Sophomore Michael Passerrello Jr. led the offense with 14 carries for 111 yards and a TD, whiled junior Wyatt Lehman had 13 total tackles to pace the defense.
Amherst's Last Game: The Comets earned a 41-13 road win at North Olmsted High School. Junior R.J. Bires rans for 174 yards on 28 carries. Junior Maddie Gates made a 28-yard FG in the final minute to become the first female to ever kick a field goal in an Amherst uniform.
Midview Stat Leaders: Senior quarterback Ethan Elbert has completed 32-of-61 (52.5%) passes and thrown for 589 yards and 5 TDs. He also has 41 carries for 156 yards and 3 more TDs. Sophomore Michael Passerrello Jr. has added 17 carries for 108 yards and a TD on the ground. Midview's top three receivers are junior Cameron West (9 receptions for 124 yards and 1 TD), senior Dane West (7 receptions for 111 yards and 1 TD) and junior Dior Jones (8 receptions for 271 yards and 2 TDs). Junior Wyatt Lehman is the Middies' leading tackler with 32 total stops. Senior Connor Rose is right behnid with 27 total tackles on the year.
