Midview Baseball concludes year with loss to Gilmour in Sectional Final

Midview Varsity Baseball suffered a 13-3, five-inning loss to host Gilmour Academy in the OHSAA Division III Sectional Final Thursday (May 21) evening.

The No. 23 Middies (11-16) jumped out to a 2-0 advantage over the No. 18 Lancers in the second inning. Senior Brayden Widenmeyer and junior Jake Derringer got things started with back-to-back one-out singles. Junior Lucas Hendershot then delivered a two-out triple to plate both runs. 

Gilmour, however, errupted for five runs in the bottom of the second before adding a pair of runs in the third and fourth and capping its offensive output with a four-run fifth. Senior Kaiden Vogelpohl singled and scored on a RBI hit by junior Jake Ellis to account for the Middies' final run in the top of the fifth.

Widenmeyer and Ellis both contirbuted two hits in Midview's seven-hit attack.

Junior Benjamin Szczepanski got the start and was tagged for seven runs (two earned) on four hits with a walk and a strikeout over two innings. He fell to 3-2 on the season. Junior Luke Jockel threw the final two and two-third innings, giving up six runs (three earned) on seven hits while striking out one.
