Midview Baseball outlasts Vermilion
Midview Varsity Baseball earned a 16-7 non-conference road win at Vermilion High School on Thursday (May 7) night.
The Middies jumped out to 6-0 lead at the midway point of the game after scoring four runs in the first, one run in the third and one run in the fourth. The Sailors captured the momentum with a run in the bottom of the fourth and then six in the fifth. Midview, however, regrouped and tied the game in the sixth and then plated nine runs in its last at-bat to secure the 16-7 victory.
Junior Jake Ellis finished 3-for-4 with a double and three RBI. Senior Damien Presser added three hits, including two doubles, in five at-bats. Both also scored a pair of runs. Senior Kaiden Vogelpohl, junior Seth Randall and junior Luke Jockel all contributed a pair of singles in the Middies' 15-hit attack.
Senior Bryce Schubert (2-0) earned the win on the mound with two scoreless innings of relief. Jockel made the start and allowed seven runs (four earned) on seven hits in five innings of work.
Midview (10-11) is back in action Monday (May 11) when it visits first place Amherst Steele High School at 4:45 p.m.
