Avon Lake defeats Midview Baseball 11-1

Midview Varsity Baseball completed its suspended Southwestern Conference match-up against visiting Avon Lake High School on Wednesday (May 8). The Shoremen, who trailed 1-0 after the top of the first inning on the original date (April 2), supplied all of the offense in the restart and rolled to an 11-1 five-inning victory.

Prior to the game, Midview celebrated the newly-renovated, all-turf facility's grand opening. Representatives of the Ross Foundation and Cromling family participated in a ribbon cutting, while Middie Head Coach Ryan Feierabend '03 threw out a ceremonial first pitch.

Avon Lake, who was the home team, tied the game with a run in the bottom of the first, added five in the second and scored four more in the third. The Shoremen capped the scoring with their final run in the fifth.

Freshmen Kellen DeSimone (0-3) suffered the loss after allowing nine runs (three earned) on nine hits with three walks and a strikeout over three innings. The Middies finished with just a pair of hits and committed six errors in the loss.

Midview will look to bounce back when it visits Vermilion High School for a non-league game on Thursday (May 7) at 5 p.m.
