Midview Baseball rallies past Elyria 7-5

Midview Varsity Baseball scored five runs over the final two innings to defeat host Elyria High School 7-4 in Southwestern Conference action on Tuesday (April 28) evening at Ely Stadium. It was the fourth straight win for the Middies, who improved to 7-8 overall and 4-5 in the league.

Senior Kaiden Vogelpohl once again triggered the offense with three hits, while six of his teammates provided single hits in the win. Vogelpohl (1-0) also picked up the win on the mound with two scoreless, one-hit innings of relief.

Midview jumped ahead with two runs in the second inning. Senior Bryce Schubert had a RBI single, while junior Luke Jockel drove in a run with a fielder's choice. The Pioneers scored a run in the second and another in the third to tie the game and then plated another pair in the fifth to take a 4-2 advantage. Midview evened the score with a Vogelpohl single and junior Benjamin Szczepanski double in the sixth. The Middies then took the lead when two runs scored on a dropped fly ball and Vogelpohl followed with a RBI single in the seventh.

Szczepanski got the start and allowed four runs (one earned) on seven hits with one walk and six strikeouts over the first five innings.

Midview is back in action Thursday (April 30) when it visits Elyria Catholic High School for a non-league game at 5 p.m.
