Midview Baseball walks off Bay 1-0
Midview Varsity Baseball hosted Bay High School in a non-conference match-up under the lights on Friday (April 24) evening. The Middies and Rockets battled in a tight pitcher's dual all evening, before the home team walked off with a thrilling 1-0 victory.
Junior Luke Jockel (1-3) earned the win with a complete-game, two-hit shutout in which he walked just two and struck out eight.
The Midview offense managed just four hits with two coming in the bottom of the seventh. Junior Lucas Hendershot hit a one-out double to left center. The key play of the game came when senior Kaiden Vogelpohl hit a fly ball to left, which was lost between the lights and the rain drops, allowing Hendershot to move to third. An intentional walk to junior Benjamin Szczepanski loaded the bases. Bay almost got out of the jam following a strikeout. However, junior Jake Ellis laced the second pitch he saw inside the right field foul line to score Hendershot and secure the 1-0 win.
The Middies (4-8) will host Keystone High School on Saturday (April 25) at 10:30 a.m.
