Buckeye walks off Midview Baseball 7-6

Midview Varsity Baseball dropped a heart-breaking 7-6 non-conference game at Buckeye High School on Wednesday (April 22) evening.

The Middies jumped out to a 6-3 advantage over the first five innings, only for the Bucks to rally down the strect for the walk-off win. 

Freshmen Kellen DeSimone drove in the first run of the game with a double in the first. After Buckeye scored a pair on an error in the bottom of the frame, junior Cole Lowrie tied the game with a single, and junior Jake Ellis added a sacrifice fly to give the Middies back the lead 3-2 in the second. The Bucks tied the game again on another error in the fourth. Midview responded with a three-run fifth. Junior Samuel Linden delivered a two-run single, and Lowrie had a RBI hit to make it 6-3. Buckeye plated a run on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fifth and the bottom of the sixth and the score was 6-5 as the teams headed into the last frame. Buckeye then used small ball to close the game with a pair of runs and steal the win.

Junior Jake Derringer led the offense with a 3-for-3 peformance at the plate, while Linden, Lowrie and senior Kaiden Vogelpohl all added two of the team's 12 hits.

DeSimone got the started and allowed four runs (one earned) on three hits and three walks with seven strikeouts over five innings. Lowrie (0-1) was tagged with the loss after giving up three runs (two earned) on two hits with two walks and two strikeouts over the final one and two-thirds of an inning.

The Middies (3-8) will visit Keystone High School on Saturday (April 25) at 10:30 a.m.
