Avon defeats Midview Baseball 10-4 in series opener

Midview Varsity Baseball played Southwestern Conference rival Avon High School Monday (April 20) under the home field's new lighs. The game was tied late only for the Eagles to fly away with a 10-4 win.

Senior Kaiden Vogelpohl collected all three of the Middies' hits on the night.  

Junior Lucas Hendershot (0-1) was charged with the loss after allowing seven runs on four hits and four walks without recording an out in the bottom of the sixth. Senior starter Damien Presser worked the first five frames and gave up three runs on five hits while walking five and striking out seven. Senior Bryce Schubert record the final three outs, two by way of the strikeout.

Avon, the home team in game one of the series, plated a pair of runs in the second and another in the fourth to take an early 3-0 advantage. Midview rallied to tie the game in the top of the sixth by scoring three runs without a hit. The Eagles walked in all three runs in the frame. Avon, however, quickly answered with a seven-run bottom of the sixth to regain control. Junior Samuel Linden drove in the Middies' final run with a groundout in the top of the seventh.

Midview will look to win game two of the series Tuesday (April 21) when the teams return to the turf at Midview High School for a first pitch at 4:45 p.m.
