Midview Baseball swept by Hudson in first games on new field
Midview Varsity Baseball switched around its schedule on Saturday (April 18) to open its newly-renovated fully-turfed field against visiting Hudson High School, who spoiled the home opener with 9-5 and 16-4 doubleheader sweep.
The Middies out-hit the Explorers (6-4) 10-7 in the opener. Senior Damien Presser (2-for-4) had a two-run single to give his squad a 2-1 advantage after the first frame. Hudson regained the lead for good with two runs in the second and three runs in the fourth before both teams plated three runs in the seventh. Junior Seth Randall (2-for-4) had a RBI single, junior Luke Jockel added a run-scoring double and the final run came on an Explorer error.
Freshman Kellen DeSimone had a 3-for-3 effort from the batter's box. DeSimone (0-1) also started on the mound and suffered the loss after allowing six runs (two earned) on three hits with four walks and seven strikeouts over four innings.
Hudson's offense and Midview's defensive struggles were the story of game two. The Explorers collected nine hits, while the Middies had six errors in the nightcap.
Jockel (0-3) started game two and allowed six runs (one earned) on five hits with five walks and a strikeout over three innings.
Senior Bryce Schubert put Midview on the board with a RBI groundout in the second. Classmate Brayden Widenmeyer had a RBI double in the fifth. Junior Benjamin Szczepanski added a RBI and the final run scored on a balk in the seventh
