Berea-Midpark routs Midview Baseball 13-2

Midview Varsity Baseball splits it season-series with host Berea-Midpark High School following a 13-2 Southwestern Conference loss on Thursday (April 9) evening.

Walks proved to be he main story of the game. The Titans took a 3-0 lead in the top of the first after six of its first seven batters drew a walk against Middie senior starter Daniel Melendez. They extended their lead to 9-0 with a six-run third innings. The Middies scored their only two runs of the game on bases loaded walks of their own in the bottom of the third. Berea-Midpark, who out-hit Midview 11-2, capped the scoring with a pair of two-run singles in the sixth.

Melendez (0-1) was charged with three runs on zero hits over one inning of work. He walked six and fanned two. Junior Benjamin Szczepanski gave up six runs on five hits, walked two and struck out six over his three innings, while junior Jake Derringer allowed four runs on six hits, walked one and struck out one over the final two frames.

The Middies (1-2, 1-2 SWC) look to bounce back with a non-conference game at Open Door Christian School on Friday (April 10) at 5 p.m.
