Midview Baseball falls to Avon Lake in season opener

Midview Varsity Baseball suffered a 14-3, five-inning loss to Southwestern Conference foe Avon Lake High School in it first game of the season on Monday (March 30) evening.

The Shoremen, who were the visiting team this game since Midview's field renovation is not yet complete, broke a scoreless tie with four runs in the third then added four more in the fourth and six in the fifth. The Middies got on the board with a bases loaded walk in the fourth and then added a pair of runs in the fifth. Senior Kaiden Vogelpohl added a solo home run, and junior Cole Lowrie drove in the final run with a groundout. 

Junior Luke Jockel took the loss after allowing four runs on four hits with three walks and three strikeouts over the first three-plus innings. Lowrie allowed eight runs (five earned) on three hits with four walks and one strikeout over one and one-third frames, while senior Bryce Schubert closed out the game by giving up two runs on one hit and walking three before registering the final out with a strikeout.

The Middies (0-1) and Shoremen will return to action on Tuesday (March 31). First pitch from Avon Lake is slated for 4:45 p.m.
