Brunswick defeats Varsity Baseball 11-5

Midview Varsity Baseball dropped a 11-5 non-conference game at Brunswick High School on Saturday (May 17) afternoon.

The Blue Devils scored three runs in the first. The Middies then plated four in the top of the second. Junior Damien Presser scored the first run on a double steal. Senior Zachary Sprague followed with a RBI double and then senior Cason Pelko (2-for-3) smashed a two-run home run to left. Brunswick, however, regained the lead for good with five runs in the bottom of the frame and then added three insurance runs in the fourth. Midview scored its last run of the game like it did the first when junior Kaiden Vogelpohl crossed the plate on a double steal.

Midview out-hit Brunswick 7-6 but could not overcome three errors and eight walks from its pitchers. Senior Henry Calcut (2-5) suffered the loss after allowing eight runs (five earned) on three hits with three strikeouts over two innings.

The Middie (8-14) have a final tune-up before OHSAA Tournament play when they host Black River High School on Tuesday (May 20) at 5 p.m.
