Sprague's Grand Slam leads to Baseball's 15-5 rout of Firelands
Senior Zachary Sprague slugged a grand slam to cap off a nine-run second inning and propel Midview Varsity Baseball to a 15-5, non-conference victory over visiting Firelands High School on Wednesday (May 14) evening.
Sprague, who finished 1-for-1 with three runs scored and four RBI, got plenty of offensive help from his teammates as Midview compiled a 14-hit attack and scored a season high in runs. Senior John Derringer and sophomore Seth Randall both had three hits, while juniors Kaiden Vogelpohl, Damien Presser and Daniel Melendez all had two hits.
Senior Cody Martin earned the win on the mound after scattering five runs (three earned) on two hits with seven strikeouts over three innings. Sophomore Benjamin Szczepanski closed the game with three strikeouts over two shutout frames.
The Middies (7-13) will visit Lorain High School on Thursday (May 15) for a first pitch at 5 p.m.
