Midview Baseball defeats Avon 9-7
Midview Varsity Baseball earned a 9-7 Southwestern Conference road victory at Avon High School on Tuesday (April 29) evening.
The Middies offense wasted no time getting on track with a five-run first. Junior Daniel Melendez had a two-run single. Senior Noah Munshower drove in a run with a groundout. The final two runs of the frame scored off the bat of senior Cason Pelko. The Eagles responded with a three-run bottom of the first, before Midview added two in the second. Melendez had a RBI triple and senior John Derringer a sacrifice fly. Junior Kaiden Vogelpohl, who had three of the team's ten hits, added a RBI triple and the stole home in the third to extend the Middies' lead to 9-3. They then held on for the two-run win. Melendez and senior Chase Harper both added a pair of hits in the game.
Munshower (3-4) earned the win after scattering six runs (five earned) on six hits with five strikeouts in 4.6 innings. Sophomore Benjamin Szczepanski earned the save after getting the final seven outs. He allowed one run on three hits and fanned one.
The Middies (4-11, 2-8 SWC) play host to Hudson High School for a doubleheader on Saturday (May 3). First pitch of game one is at 11 a.m.
