Shoremen rally past Varsity Baseball 8-7

Midview Varsity Baseball jumped out to a six-run lead in the second inning only for host Avon Lake High School to rally for an 8-7 Southwestern Conference victory Monday (April 7) afternoon.

Junior Kaiden Vogelpohl drove in the first run with a single in the first. The Middies then had four players collect RBI hits in the second. Sophomore Benjamin Szczepanski had a two-run double, while senior John Derringer, senior Chase Harper and senior Henry Calcut added RBI singles. The Shoremen responded with a three-run bottom of the second before the Middies plated their final run in the third on a bases loaded hit by pitch. Avon Lake then score three runs in the third and one more in both the sixth and seventh innings.

Midview out hit Avon Lake 9-5 but was once again hampered by nine walks from its pitching staff. Senior Camden Scott (0-1) suffered the loss after allowing one run on one hit over one inning.

The Middies are slated to host the Shoremen, wheather permitting, on Tuesday (April 9) at 4:45 p.m.
