Midview to honor 1992 State Final Four Volleyball Team on September 19

Midview Athletics will welcome back the OHSAA Division I Final Four 1992 Varsity Volleyball team to Kubuski Gymnasium on Tuesday (September 19) evening when the Middies play host to Amherst Steele High School. The tripleheader begins at 4:30 p.m. A short ceremony will take place prior to the varsity match-up at approximately 6:30 p.m.

The 1992 Midview Volleyball team, under the direction of Head Coach Faith Riccilli, was the school's first program to ever win a Regional Championship. The Middies topped Perrysburg High School 15-9, 15-4 in the Willard Regional Semifinal and then Mansfield Madison High School 16-14, 11-15, 15-9 to capture the Regional crown. Midview entered the Division I Final Four at Wright State University's Nutter Center having won its first 25 matches. However, the Middies' dream season came to an end with a 5-15, 18-16, 15-13 loss to eventual State Champion Stow-Munroe Falls High School on November 13, 1992.

The 1992 Volleyball featured junior Anne Arcipowski, senior All-Ohio Cass Dolhancyk, junior Carrie Fischer, junior Jessica Homoki, junior Courtney MacNeal, senior Noel Nicely, junior Theresa Peter, senior Amy Plas, junior Tara Stanislawski and senior All-Ohio Kim Wilson. Coach Riccilli, who earned Division I Coach of the Year honors, retired following the historic season.

It took three decades for a Midview program to return to the OHSAA Semifinal. The Girls Basketball team accomplished that feat with a memorable run to the OHSAA Division I Final Four a year ago.

The 1992 squad will receive a digital invite this week and can RSVP to the event by emailing Athletics Director Dan May at dmay@midviewk12.org.
