Thomas Named Interim Head Coach of Midview Volleyball

The Midview Board of Education formally approved Tricia Thomas as the Interim Head Volleyball Coach at the June 28 Board of Education Meeting.

Thomas will take the temporary reins from Kate Kasper, who was diagnosed with Classical Hodgkin's Lymphoma this spring. Kasper plans to remain involved during her battle with cancer but felt it was in the best interest for the student-athletes to have a clear leadership structure during her time away.

"I appreciate Tricia's willingness to take on this extended role for the season," Midview Athletics Director Dan May said. "This remains Kate's program, and we fully support her as she fights her battle against this disease. Tricia and the rest of the staff are committed to keeping things afloat for our Middies, and we look forward to another competitive season in the Southwestern Conference."

Thomas, a Mathematics teacher at the high school, brings 25 years of coaching experience at a variety of levels within the Midview program. She began as a freshmen coach in 1996 before taking over as the Head Coach of the Middies from 1999-2005. Most recently Thomas led the 8th grade program and planned to be the Varsity Assistant in 2023-24.

"I am honored and excited to work with Coach Kasper, the rest of this dedicated staff, and the student-athletes as we continue building this volleyball program," said Thomas. "I am confident that we will all use our strengths to put the best possible teams on the court."

The Middies will look to improve upon a 7-16 record in 2022. Midview, which anticipates the return of five letter winners, will open its season at Westlake High School on August 19. Their home opener is slated for August 24 against Avon Lake High School. [2023 Schedule]
