Midview Girls Tennis Competes on Day 1 of SWC Tournament
Midview Varsity Girls Tennis shifted to tournament mode Saturday (September 14) for Day 1 of the 2024 Southwestern Conference Tournament at Avon High School.
Senior top-seeded Katarina Yates rolled into the finals with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Elyria and a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Avon. Yates, now 20-0 on the year, will face third-seed Amherst Steele's Kayla Bussard for the SWC tiitle back at Avon on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
Junior third-seeded Jillian Hubbard finished fifth at second singles. She bounced back from an opening loss to Olmsted Falls to knock off Amherst and then Elyria.
Junior sixth-seeded Brynn Wuensch also placed fifth after dropping her first match against Berea-Midpark then topping North Ridgeville and Amherst.
The first doubles tandem of junior Julianne Myers and sophomore Danica Hazzard were seeded seventh and also placed fifth with a win over Berea-Midpark and then Olmsted Falls.
Junior Morgan Piskunoff and sophomore Leah Vassarab were seeded third at second doubles and placed sixth. They defeated Berea-Midpark in their second match.
The Middies are back in action Monday (September 16) with a home non-conference match against Padua Franciscan High School at 4:30 p.m.
