Varsity Girls Tennis Places 7th at Norwalk Invitational; Yates First Singles Champion

Midview Varsity Girls Tennis capped its opening weekend by participating in the 8-team Norwalk Invitational Saturday (August 10). The Middies compiled 48 points to place seventh overall. [Full Results]

Senior Katarina Yates earned the individual championship at first singles after finishing the tournament 3-0. Yates topped Annie Mahek (Shelby) 6-2, 6-1 in her opening match. She then defeated Penelope Giammarco (Perrysburg) 6-3, 6-2 in the semifinal before knocking off Amber Korey (Avon Lake) 6-4, 6-2 in the championship match. All three of her opponents were 2023 state qualifiers.

Junior Brynn Wuensch went 1-2 to finish sixth at third singles, while sophomore Hailey Doyle-O'Dea and Danica Hazzard placed fourth after also going 1-2.

The Middies are back in action Monday (August 11) when they open Southwestern Conference play against visiting Amherst Steele High School at 4:30 p.m.
