Boys Wrestling drops SWC opener to Amherst 45-31

Midview Varsity Boys Wrestling opened its 2024-25 Southwestern Conference campaign with a hard-fough 45-31 setback to visiting Amherst Steele High School Thursday (December 12) inside Kubuski Gymnasium.

The Comets jumped out to a 21-0 lead after four weight classes. Midview won four of the next six to climb within striking distance 33-19. Senior Aaron Cole earned an 18-2 win at 132 pounds, senior Gage Baribeau won 15-4 at 150 pounds, junior Braden Lehman won 16-2 at 157 pounds and senior Benjamin McCaffrey earned a pin at 165 pounds. Senior Cameron West won by forfeit at 190 points and senior Nathanial Shenberger won by pinfall at 215 pounds but it wasn't enough to earn the team victory tonight.

The Middies return to the mat Wednesday (December 18) at Avon Lake High School. The match-up is slated to begin at 6:30 p.m.
