Boys Wrestling wins season-opening Austin Smiley Tournament
Midview Varsity Boys Wrestling opened up its 2024-25 season with a first place finish at the Austin Smiley Tournament hosted by Hillsdale High School Saturday (December 7).
The Middies finished with 10 top-six finishers, including 3 individual champions, to out-point runner-up Ridgewood High School 236-189.5 at the 12-team event.
Senior Aaron Cole swept through his pool play and the 132 pound championship bracket with 5 wins. He secured first place with an 18-3 tech fall against Jack Morris from Northwestern High School. Senior Gage Baribeau also went 5-0 while defeating Colton Morris by a 14-5 major decision to win the 150 pound title. Senior Nathanial Shenberger scored five straight pins to capture the 215 championship, capping off his day with 2:51 win over David Biggers of Lexington High School.
Junior Carrson Morris placed runner-up at 120 pounds. Freshman Owen Costlow finished fourth at 126 pounds. Senior Logan Vandal placed third at 144 pounds. Senior Benjamin McCaffrey took fourth at 157 pounds. Junior Marcus McMahon was third at 165 pounds. Senior Cross Wervey placed fifth at 175 pounds. Senior Cameron West finished sixth at 190 pounds.
Midview returns to action Thursday (December 12) with a home Southwestern Conference dual against Amherst Steele High School. Action will begin at 6:30 p.m.
