Midview Track and Field opens season at John Sanders Invitational
Midview Varsity Track and Field braved the sub-freezing temperatures to compete in the season-opening John Sanders Invitational on Saturday (March 28) morning.
The Middies posted six first place finishes and seven second place finishes at the eight-team invitational, which did not track team scoring and gives each squad a chance for three of its student-athletes to compete in the individual events.
Junior Jeffrey Wirth used the momentum from his fourth place finish at the OATCCCC Indoor Shot Put to beat his competition in both the Shot Put (52-8.00) and Discus Throw (147-7.00). Sophomore Ian Regan, senior Seth Gendics, senior Gage Weaver and senior Kaiden Vonya placed runner-up in the 4x100m Relay (45.53
On the girls side, junior Maya Nimer captured gold in the Pole Vault after clearing 8-1.00. Junior Ava Hamm tied for first in the High Jump with a top mark of 4-10.00 and took runner-up in the Long Jump (14-5.00). Senior Isabel Geyer also took second place in both the Shot Put (37-5.00) and Discus Throw (101-8.00).
Sophomore Cora Vance won the 200m Dash by crossing the line in 26.45 seconds. Sophomore Hannah Bacskay placed runner-up in the 100m Dash (13.01) and 200m Dash (26.66). Sophomore Emma Schriver finished second in the 300m Hurdles (55.80).
Junior Alison Winslow, sophomore Sophia Morgan, sophomore Cadence Dellisanti and sophomore Leila Morgan crossed the line second in the 4x800m Relay (11:24.47). The foursome of junior Leah McKay, Hannah Bacskay, Leila Morgan and Cora Vance then capped off the meet with the time in the 4x400m Relay (4:16.47).
The Middies are back on the track April 8 when they compete against host Avon High School in a Southwestern Conference dual at the Avon Early Learning Center beginning at 4:30 p.m.
