Midview Girls finish 6th and Boys take 7th at SWC Track and Field Championship

Midview Varsity Track and Field competed at the two-day Southwestern Conference Championship Wednesday (May 14) and Friday (May 16) at Avon High School's Early Learning Center. The Middie girls placed sixth with 59 points, while the boys finished seventh with 37.5 points at the eight-team year-end event.

The Girls 4x400m Relay, which featured freshman Molly Ockuly, freshman Hannah Bacskay, freshman Leila Morgan and sophomore Cora Vance, captured Midview's lone SWC title when it crossed the line in a school record 4:06.93. The 4x100m Relay also broke the school record when sophomore Ava Hamm, sophomore Leah McKay, Bacskay and Vance placed runner-up (49.89) in its race. Midview's 4x800m Relay, which featured Ockuly, Morgan, junior Alison Winslow and sophomore Madelyn Czellath, finished sixth (10:45.19).

Vance (25.88) and Bacskay (26.24) also finished third and fourth, respectively, in the 200m Dash. Vance's performance was a new school record.

Midview's girls scored in every field event. Hamm took runner-up in the Long Jump (16-7). Senior Mkennzie Bennett was fourth in the Pole Vault (8-6). Sophomore Jillian Hubbard placed fifth in the High Jump (4-10). Junior Isabel Geyer finished fifth in the Discus Throw (103-4) and sixth in the Shot Put (32-0.50).  

The final team points on the girls side came when Hubbard placed sixth in the 100m Hurdles (18.00) and Ockuly finished eighth in the 800m Run (2:35.25). 

The Middie boys also scored in every field event. Sophomore Jeffrey Wirth took fourth in the Discus Throw (137-10). Senior Makai Massey was fifth in the Shot Put (48-8.25). Senior Sigurd Hansen finished sixth in the Long Jump (20-3.75) and eighth in the High Jump (5-10). Sophomore Anderson Bennett tied for seventh in the Pole Vault (11-6). 

Senior Logan Bier was the highest boys finsiher when he placed runner-up in the 300m Hurdles (40.11). He also took eighth in the 110m Hurdles (16.58). 

Junior Gage Weaver, freshman Ian Regan, junior Logan Edgell and junior Kaiden Vonya helped the team take seventh in the 4x200m Relay (1:33.04), while Weaver, senior Nolan RothRegan and Egdell finished eighth in the 4x100m Relay (44.17). The 4x800m Relay, which featured senior Reuben Greenly, junior Sam Estes, junior Christopher Payne and freshman Hayden Maxwell, placed eighth (9:09.51). The 4x400m Relay, which was run by EdgellBier, Hansen and Vonya, finished seventh (3:39.09).

Individually, Vonya also took sixth in the 200m Dash (23.49), while Hansen also placed seventh in the 800m Run (1:59.88).

The Middies now turn their focus to the OHSAA Division I District Championship, which will take place May 21 and May 23 back at the Avon ELC.
