Carter, Runser and Weber to compete at OHSAA Track & Field Championship June 2-3

What: OHSAA Division I Boys and Girls Track & Field Championship

Who: Midview and the other Top 4 Individuals and Relays plus the next 2 best performances from the Amherst Steele, Austintown Fitch, Huber Heights Wayne and Pickerington North Regionals, as well as the 8 individual boys qualifiers and 18 individual girls qualifers in the four seated events.

When: Friday (June 2) and Saturday (June 3).

Where: Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium on the campus of The Ohio State University (2450 Fred Taylor Dr, Columbus, OH 4321)

Midview Qualifiers: Seniors Alexis Weber and Ryan Runser will each compete Saturday in the High Jump (Girls at 12 PM; Boys at 3 PM) and Long Jump (Boys at 12 PM; Girls at 3 PM), while senior Max Carter will participate in the seated 100m Dash (Saturday at 4:40 PM), 400m Run (Saturday at 2:05 PM) and Shot Put (Friday at 11:15 AM) at the OHSAA Championship. Seven events are the most Midview has ever competed in, breaking the record of three (2 individual and 1 relay) set in 1995.

Regional Success: The Boys took 13th of 43 teams (15 points) and the Girls placed 15th of 39 teams (20 points). The previous best for the Girls was 9 points in 2011. It was the best Boys performance since 2008.

Carter's Qualifying Marks: Max Carter initially qualified for all three of his seated events at the Shipwreck Invitational. His top performances in all three events came in at the SWC Championship May 10 and 12. 

Carter's State Outlook: Max Carter is seeded second (19.02) among eight participants in the 100m Dash. He is also second (1:14.92) among the three racers in the 400m Dash, while ranked third (12-8) among four competitors in the Boys Shot Put.

Runser's Regional Performances: Ryan Runser won the Long Jump with a school record jump of 22-9.75 and then placed fourth in the High Jump after clearing 6-3. He was the first male Regional Champion since 2008.

Runser's State Outlook: Ryan Runser is tied for the 18th seed in the High Jump and is seeded sixth in the Long Jump among the Division I participants.

Weber's Regional Performances: Alexis Weber won the High Jump by successfully clearing 5-4 and the Long Jump with a school record performance of 18-10.50. These are her second and third Regional Championships after winning the High Jump at the 2022 Findlay Regional. No other Midview female student-athlete has ever won a regional championship.

Weber Jumps to History: Alexis Weber enters the OHSAA Championship as the top seed in the Long Jump and the third seed in the High Jump among the 18 Division I participants. The 2023 State Indoor High Jump Champion set a school and Lorain County record by clearing 5-9 in the High Jump at the Bell Invitational on May 5. She also set a new Southwestern Conference Championship record when she cleared 5-8.50 on May 10. She has not lost in either event this season. Weber will make her third appearance in the High Jump at the State Championship. It is the most appearances ever by a Midview female student-athlete. She tied for 11th (5-2) as a sophomore and took seventh (5-4) as a junior.

State Meet Traffic and Parking Advisory: Guests coming to Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium for the state track and field meet should use State Route 315 and either the Ackerman Road exit or the Lane Avenue exit. For reference, Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium is located at 2450 Fred Taylor Drive, Columbus, Ohio. Please follow the direction of the traffic and parking attendants for the nearest available parking, which will be free in identified lots both days of the state tournament. In other lots, a parking fee will apply, payable by credit card.
 
Tickets: Mobile tickets for the state tournament are available through Ticketmaster beginning Tuesday, May 23 at 10 a.m. The direct link to the event on Ticketmaster is: https://go.osu.edu/ohsaatrackandfieldtix. Tickets can be purchased on site at the Coveli Center, located just to the north of Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. Note that tickets purchased at Ticketmaster prior to arrival at the state tournament are the same cost as tickets purchase on site. 
 
What's at Stake: The top 8 in each event earn All-Ohio honors.
