Midview Softball defeats Olmsted Falls 15-1

Midview Varsity Softball took care of business in a 15-1 Southwestern Conference victory over Olmsted Falls High School Thursday (April 30) on the newly-renovated MHS Softball Field.

The victory sets up a scenario where the Middies (16-5, 10-3) can secure atleast a share of the SWC championship with a win Monday (May 4) against host Amherst Steele High School. The Comets and Berea-Midpark High School Titans also have three league losses. Both also have more than one game left to play.

It took one time through the order for Midview's offense to get going but once they did nothing could stop them. Senior Nina Ballachino (2-for-2) drove in the first run of the third inning on a double. Sophomore Jillian Vandersluis (3-for-3) followed with a two-run single, before junior Savannah Presser (2-for-4) laced a two-run home run to center field. The Bulldogs, who were the home team in the game, plated their only run in the bottom of the third.

The Middies responded with a seven-run fourth to take a 12-1 lead. Junior Dezirae Thomas (3-for-4) had a RBI single, Ballachino a two-run single, Vandersluis two-run double and Presser her second two-run blast of the day. Midview capped off its scoring in the fifth. Senior Olivia Keenan drove in a run with a single, junior Angela Lenczewski hit in another with a groundout and Presser plated her fifth run of the day when she reached on an error.

Junior Savannah Holcomb (12-3) scattered one run on three hits with three walks and eight strikeouts over four innings. Vandersluis closed the game with a scoreless fifth after striking out two.

Midview was slated to visit Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School on Saturday (May 2), but the Bees had to cancel due to the need to make-up a league game. Therefore, the Middies are off until their match-up at Amherst on Monday.
