Midview Softball wins battle with Keystone 10-7

Midview Varsity Softball defeated Keystone High School 10-7 in non-conference action Tuesday (April 28) evening on the MHS turf.

The match-up featured the first place team in both the Southwestern Conference and Lorain County League and proved to be a heavy-weight offensive battle with momentum shifting each half inning.

The Middies out-hit the Wildcats 12-10 on the day. Sophomore pitcher Jillian Vandersluis paced the team with a 3-for-4 performance, while junior Dezirae Thomas, senior Olivia Keenan and junior Savannah Presser all added a pair of hits.

Keystone plated a run with a pair of two-out hits in the top of the first. Midview took a 2-1 advantage in the bottom of the second. Junior Mallory Hechko had a RBI groundout and sophomore Arrianna Presser delivered a RBI single with two outs. The Wildcats tied the game at 2-2 with a bases loaded walk in the third. Vandersluis, however, responded with a three-run home run to left field in the bottom of the frame. Keystone once again tied it in the fourth by scoring three unearned runs. The Middies broke a 5-5 deadlock with a four-run fourth. Senior Nina Ballachino had a RBI single, Keenan a two-run double and S. Presser a run-scoring single in the frame. The Wildcats inched closer with a single run in the fifth and sixth, only for the Middies to add an insurance run in their half of the sixth on a S. Presser RBI double and take the 10-7 win.

Vandersluis (4-2) earned the win after scattering seven runs (three earned) on 10 hits with four walks and three strikeouts.

The Middies (14-5, 8-3 SWC) jump right back into league play when they host Elyria High School on Wednesday (April 29) at 4:45 p.m.
