Elyria Catholic rallies past Midview Softball 8-7
Midview High School varsity softball had host Elyria Cathollc High School on the ropes for seven innings, only for the Panthers to walk-off with an 8-7 victory Tuesday (March 24) evening.
The Middies took a 1-0 advantage in the first inning, when junior Savannah Presser drove in a run with a sacrifice fly after three straight walks to start the game. The Panthers answered with a solo home run in the second and then took the lead with a single run in the fourth. Midview responded with a two-run home run from Presser in the fifth. The Middies added a run on a RBI groundout by junior Dezirae Thomas in the sixth. Elyria Catholic, however, regained the lead with a three-run bottom of the sixth.
Midview was down to its last at-bat, when freshmen Hailey Dye launched a three-run home run to center to give her squad the 7-6 lead. Unfortunately, the Panthers rallied once again with a three-run half of their inning, which culminated with a game-winning sacrifice fly and an 8-7 win.
Dye finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored and three RBI. Sophomore Jillian Vandersluis (0-1) suffered the loss after allowing 4 runs (2 earned) in 1.6 innings of work.
Midview (1-1) looks to bounce back at Magnificat High School on Wednesday (March 25). First pitch was moved to 5:30 p.m.
