Varsity Softball ends season with 6-4 loss to Gilmour in District Semifinal
No 25 Midview Varsity Softball had its 2025 season come to an end with a 6-4 road loss to No. 10 Gilmour Academy in the OHSAA Division III District Semifinal on Tuesday (May 20) evening.
The Lancers jumped out to a 6-0 advantage in the bottom of the first inning before sophomore Savannah Holcomb (7-9) struck out three straight to end the frame. The Middies, then gathered their nerves and took it to their opponent the rest of the way. Midview got on the board with a two-out double steal in the second. Freshman Jillian Vandersluis, who led off the inning with a walk, scored on the play.
The Middies added their final three runs in the third. Sophomore Dezirae Thomas (4-for-4) opened with a double. Holcomb (3-for-3) followed with a bunt single. Junior Nina Ballachino delivered a RBI single to plate Thomas. Vandersluis then ripped a two-run single up the middle.
Midview, which out-hit Gilmour 13-6, loaded the bases with no one outs in the top of the sixth. The Lancers, however, escaped the jam unharmed after a double play and a pop out.
The Middies, who graduate just two seniors and started one junior, three sophomores and four freshmen in the game, finished the season 8-11 overall.
