Varsity Softball routs Avon Lake 13-3

Midview Varsity Softball earned a 13-3 Southwestern Conference victory over visiting Avon Lake High School on Wednesday (April 16) afternoon.

The Middies collected 11 hits and scored in all six innings. Junior Olivia Keenan, who was celebrating her birthday, had a three-run home run to key a four-run opening frame. Junior Nina Ballachino
opened the scoring with a RBI groundout. Sophomore Savannah Holcomb had a sacrifice fly and Ballachino added a RBI single in the second. Freshman Jillian Vandersluis and sophomore Mallory Hechko had RBI singles in the third and fourth, respectively. Holcomb and Ballachino added RBI singles in the fifth, while a run scored on a passed ball and then a fielders choice by sophomore Savannah Presser in the sixth.

Sophomore Dezirae Thomas, Holcomb and Ballachino all had a pair of hits in the win.

Holcomb (3-5) earned the win on the mound after allowing three unearned runs on four hits with five strikeouts over six innings.

The Middies (3-5, 2-4 SWC) play host to Berea-Midpark High School on Thursday (April 17) at 4:45 p.m.
