Milner Elevated to Head Coach of Midview Boys Soccer Program

Midview Athletics announced the promotion of Kyle Milner to Head Boys Soccer Coach following Board of Education approval on Wednesday (May 17) evening.

"I am thrilled that Coach Kyle has agreed to take over the reins of the Midview Boys Soccer program," said Midview Athletics Director Dan May. "He has a great educational-based athletics mindset and good rapport with the boys making him the perfect person to build upon our recent success."

Milner joined the Middies as a sixth grade teacher and junior varsity boys soccer coach in 2021-22. He a played a major role in the program's succes and was named the Greater Cleveland Scholastic Soccer Coaches Association (GCSSCA) Boys Assistant Coach of the Year in 2022. Milner replaces Dalton Joyce as the leader of Midview Boys Soccer. Joyce departed for his alma mater Buckeye High School after leading the Middies for the last two seasons.

"The opportunity to be a head coach means that the hard work is paying off but there is more hard work to be done," Milner said. "I see coaching and teaching as a medium through which I can help push future generations toward their goals in life. Being a head coach allows me to do this, reaching kids from Pre-K to 12th grade. This is an opportunity that I have been striving toward for the past 6+ years, stemming back to my time on staff with Bowling Green State University Men's Soccer. To do it here at Midview, where I was given my start as a teacher and high school coach, means a lot. I am grateful for this opportunity and look forward to getting started."

Milner was a standout goalkeeper at North Ridgeville High School. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Middle Childhood Education from Bowling Green State University in 2021. Milner's coaching philosophy and style were developed during his collegiate years with the BGSU Men's Soccer program. He began his time with the Falcons as a team manager, transition to the Student Director of Soccer Operations before ultimately becoming a Student Assistant Coach. Milner, who holds a USSF C License from the U.S. Soccer Federation, has also coach club soccer since 2017 and is currently with Team Challenger North FC.

"My immediate goal for Midview Boys Soccer is to take this program back to its roots culture wise," Milner said. "This is a community of blue-collar families who work hard for what they have and come through for each other when it matters. This is a group of young men that can no longer lead with a few. They have to lead TOGETHER. On the field, our program will strive to compete each and every day, with a focus of being disciplined with and without the ball being key to our success."

Midview finished 8-7-4 overall and 2-2-3 in the Southwestern Conference in 2022. The Middies captured their first sectional title since 1997 and only second ever before falling to eventual Division I State Champion Saint Ignatius in the District Semifinal.

"The long-term goal of this program is to extend this culture all the way down to the youngest soccer players in our community, creating a linear connection or pathway and curriculum," Milner said. "Each player will be responsible for being an ambassador/servant leader to the program and raising up the next generation of Midview Soccer Players!"

Midview, who anticipates the return of nine varsity lettermen, will open the 2023 campaign at Brunswick on August 11. The Middies' home opener is against Ashland on August 16. [Complete Schedule]
