DiFranco Memorial Classic Set for Wednesday

The 2022 DiFranco Memorial Basketball Classic is scheduled to return to Midview High School's Kubuski Gymnasium on Wednesday (November 23) afternoon. The 22nd edition of the event will feature five varsity basketball match-ups.

North Ridgeville and Firelands boys will tip-off the day at 1 PM. Amherst Steele is slated to play Oberlin at 2:30 PM. Elyria and Sandusky battle at 4 PM. Midview's girls will play host to Elyria Catholic at 5:30 PM. Midview's boys will once again conclude the night against Keystone at 7 PM.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students (K-12) and senior citizens (60+). One admission will allow you to watch all five games. They can be purchased online via https://midview.hometownticketing.com/embed/all or at the gate via credit card, Apple Pay, etc. No cash sales. In addition, no Midview passes or league passes are accepted at this event.

The event began with the idea of hosting a tournament and starting a scholarship fund worthy of bearing Bob DiFranco's name. What has emerged is an event that brings together the entire Lorain County community and has raised over $75,000 since 2000 for deserving students.

All proceeds from program advertisements, program sales and 50-50 raffles go directly into the DiFranco Sportsmanship Scholarship fund. Midview senior student-athletes who earned a varsity sportsmanship award during their careers are eligible for the annual post-graduate scholarship.

The real beneficiaries of this tournament are both the student-athletes who participate in the tournament and the scholarship recipients who are able to offset a portion of their college education as a result of the tournament. Hopefully, these young men and women will remember the tournament with kindness and respect and will continually associate these values with the name of Bob and Troy DiFranco.
