Boys Bowling Qualifies for District Championship for First Time in Program History
Midview Varsity Boys Bowling made program history Saturday (February 17) afternoon at Spevock's Nautical Lanes. The Middies placed fourth at the OHSAA Sectional Tournament to earn their first ever trip as a team to the District Tournament.
The Middies finished with 3,863 pins, which was just 13 pins above Padua Franciscan High School, to grab the fourth and final qualifying spot. Midview rolled a 2,728 three-game series (829 - 1003 - 896), which placed them fifth and just 7 pins behind the Bruins heading into the six Baker games. Padua extended their lead to 30 pins midway through Bakers. However, Midview rolled a 244 in the fourth Baker to jump into fourth place by 54 pins. The Bruins inched to within 13 pins heading into the deciding Baker, and the both teams rolled a 181 to help the Middies maintain their seat in the final spot.
Individually, senior Alex Fedyszyn rolled the best series of all 120 competitors. He finished with a 730 series, including the best game of the day 278 in his second game. Junior Zachary Sprague placed 10th with a 605 series, sophomore Aiden Salkiewicz finished 28th with a 537 series, while junior Brennan Nixon, sophomore Aidan Corbin and freshmen Conor Nowak contributed consistent bowling throughout to help the team accomplish this historic accomplishment.
The Middies are back in action Sunday (February 25) when they attempt to qualify for state as a team or individuals by scoring well at the District Tournament, which takes place at Rebman Lanes beginning at 10 a.m.
