Whether he was hoisting a basketball, throwing the shot put, or hurling a discus, when Patrick Rhyner let something fly out of his hands, it usually found its mark.

Rhyner was a basketball and track and field standout during his illustrious career at Midview. He was a three-year letter winner, but it was during his junior and senior years that he dominated on the hardwood. Patrick was named to the All Lakeland Conference and All Lorain County teams in both campaigns. He led Midview in scoring both seasons, ripping the nets for over 20 points per game each year. He led Midview to the Lakeland Conference crown his junior year, as well as a successful senior season, when Midview tied for second in the league, and captured a Sectional Championship. Rhyner was named first team All-Tournament.

Patrick’s senior year included a then school tying record 41 point outburst against Brunswick. He was named team MVP, but his biggest honor came later, when he became the Middies’ first ever All-State selection in basketball, receiving Honorable Mention. When his career was finished, Patrick Rhyner left his mark in the Midview record book with 1,121 points and 450 rebounds. For his accomplishments, he was invited to the prestigious All-Ohio and five Star basketball camps.

Patrick didn’t rest after basketball was over. He went right to track and field and excelled there as well. He displayed his strength in both the shot put and discus, setting Midview school records in both events at 53 feet in the shot and 155 feet in the discus. Patrick competed in the prestigious Comet Relays, and not only did well, but was named MVP. And he wasn’t just a two-event guy. In both his junior and senior years, he displayed versatility by placing in the top 20 of the Lorain County decathlon.

The consummate athlete, Patrick played football his senior year and all he ended up doing as a first-year player, was to start every game for the Middies.

Patrick is in management and lives with his wife Ana in Quakertown, PA, with their children Jessica, Megan, Rachel and Steven.
