Bio
A two year starter in basketball and baseball, Creg Jantz was Midview’s MVP and All Erie Shore Conference in both sports his senior year.
A two year starter in basketball, Creg’s senior season was outstanding. He had ten games in which he scored over 20 points including a career-high 31 points at home against Elyria. He finished second in the conference in scoring that year, averaging 17.2 points in 13 games and was named first team All-Erie Shore Conference, All-Lorain County, and third team All-District. His four teammates on the All-Erie Shore team went on to play for Div. I universities, which confirms the caliber of play represented by the Erie Shore conference.
Creg started two years, for the Middies on the diamond as a catcher and outfielder, capped off by a prolific senior season when he batted .456. He threw out 16-of 24 potential base stealers on his way to a first team All-Conference nod, and posted a .987 fielding percentage as catcher. He hit .538 in 12 Erie Shore games with 15 RBI’s. He appeared in the top ten on six of the Middies all-time single season records lists: batting average (.456); doubles (8), RBI’s (20); on base percentage (.613); least strikeouts (5); and infield fielding percentage (.987). His batting average ranked second all-time at the time.
After entertaining basketball and baseball offers from multiple colleges at several levels, Creg Jantz accepted a baseball scholarship to Ashland University (NCAA, Division II). He hit .436, as a sophomore, leading the Eagles in hits (17), RBI’s (14) and homeruns (3) as they finished 10-4-1. His three long balls came at a Youngstown State University tournament, which included match-ups against Akron University and the University of Pittsburgh. He ended that year with a .326 average, during the fall season, including 28 RBI’s and 50 hits in 46 games. The career .300 hitter batted .343 with a team-high 42 hits his final season. A two-year team captain and four-year letter winner, Creg was named the team’s Most Valuable Player and was a second team All-Great Lakes Valley Conference selection his senior year.
Creg Jantz is the Assistant Athletic Director and Sports Information Director at Case Western Reserve University. He lives in Avon Lake with his wife Anita and sons, Aidan, and, Aneil.
