Outstanding in basketball and football, Doug Gerber played on some of the best teams in school history.

In football, his junior year, he ran the opening kickoff back for a touchdown in the first game of the season against Elyria Catholic. The team went to a 9 - 1 record and Doug averaged 10.4 yards per carry. He scored 16 touchdowns. Doug joined six other Middies on the First-Team All-Lorain Conference Team on offense.

In his senior year he averaged 11.3 yards per carry and gained 923 yards. He caught 18 passes and averaged 22.5 yards per reception. He scored 17 touchdowns to help the team to a 10 - 0 regular season. One of the highlights was a 56 - 0 trouncing of Wellington. The team earned a spot in the playoffs and lost to Wadsworth 42 - 35. It was a game for the ages. Midview gained over 400 yards on the ground as Wadsworth almost matched the Middies with their passing game. Doug Gerber ran for a game high 208 yards.

Doug was equally adept at basketball. The team was 20 - 2 his junior year and won 16 games before losing. He averaged 13.4 points per game during his three year career with a high of 16, his senior year. He scored a total of 853 points. He averaged 82.3% shooting free throws. He made 66 three pointers and made seven of them in one quarter against Wellington. He had 132 career steals.

Doug Gerber was an intelligent ball player. He saw the basketball court and the football field in their entirety and made decisions based on his instinctive vision of the action which gave him an advantage over his opponents in addition to his athleticism.
